Stay Woke!

Speaking of being too tired from tasting for TaskRabbit; I had a number of recurring clients. Which was nice! They would just message me when it was time or tell me at the end of the task, when they wanted me to return. Inasmuch as I was flattered that they liked my work that much, I get bored doing the same thing. One of the things I enjoy about doing all the jobs I do, is because no two days are alike. Some clients have a tendency of

Hollywood And Beverly Hills Tour

Our time in Vegas is running out, we won't be able to meet up with Tortoise. I called and let him know that. We made our way to the bus station. A little waiting and we were on the road back to The City of Angels. Calvin picked us up from Union Station. He took us to the famous Phillippe's for breakfast, downtown LA. I was too tired to care, so I waited in the car for them. We took the food home. There was so much

Haunted Hotel in Las Vegas

Happy New Month of August, everyone!

We're in Vegas, they let us check in early, thank goodness! Our room did smell like cigarette smoke though! We turned on the A/C as soon as we got in there, to try and, I guess, kill the smell? My sister, Pumla, took a bath first. I was walking around, taking videos. Here's a video of our hotel room...

My Cooking Husband

shopping sisters
Shopping Time!
Speaking of Shopping! Here we are with our new bags. I'm the one with glasses on! Haha! Kidding aside, the bag my sister is carrying, she bought the previous day. The one she had on in the previous post, she must've have bought the day before that. The shoes she has on are new too! They are cute rose gold Steve Maddens. You already know my Calvins from this blog. The orange top I have on, she brought me from South Africa. She brought me a pink one and this orange one amongst other things. I did pick up a new watch one of those days,

One of my favorite things about the watch is that it comes with three different straps, a royal blue one, white and the one I ave on.

Shopping Sisters

She's here! Now what? Just kidding!
This was a great period in my life, first the engagement, then shot gun wedding, now my person is in town! Talk about having the time of one's life! As my sister and I were walking to the care with me secretly wishing to bump into a celebrity or two. Why not? We are in LA after all, right? TMZ! Where you at? We'll just follow your lead!
This was her first time seeing my car in 'person', so she was excited for me. So was I!

Birthdays and Anniversaries

I hope those who celebrate had a nice 4th of July!
Quick! Before today ends, I would like to make an announcement: It's my sister Puma Brook-Thomae's Birthday! Happy birthday, sis! I have sent her messages all over the technology globe because I love her so. I can't wait to call her tomorrow and ask her all about it. She's probably asleep now. Time difference. It should be 3am where she is now. I don't think she will appreciate being called at this hour for birthday details, haha!

Camping in Santa Barbara

Our campgrounds were about 20 minutes outside Santa Barbara City Limits. It was already dark outside and trying to find the grounds to be a bit tricky. I thought we could just follow the GPS and we'd be as good as gold. Nope! The address we had was for the offices. When you look out the campgrounds, the GPS takes you to the middle of nowhere and then says, 'you have arrived!'. No, lady! We haven't! Calvin told me he thought he may have seen an off ramp further back. I had to make a U-turn but we were in a hilly, windy road, so first driveway I saw, I turned into, to turn. Here's Calvin freaking out, 'OMG, babe! Babe! We'll get killed here! don't drive into this yard! What are you doing, babe?' I thought I was dreaming. What kinda co-pilot is this? You job is to keep me calm, not get more excited than me!

Santa Barbara State Beach

The route to Santa Barbara was so scenic! So enjoyable! Plus, I love to drive, so this wasn't a stretch for me at all. We made one more pit stop before we got there. We got there sooner than I expected. One minute we were on the freeway, the next, we were on State Street!

Calvin suggested we head straight for the beach. Good idea, babe! Now, to find parking! We found a nice spot, probably the only one; right by the beach. Thank you, stars! I was so excited to be in one of the places I had always dreamt of going, I took a 360° video clip. Here it is!

Catalina Island

Just before we headed out to the mall , Maggie, Calv's mom, called Calvin and gave him gifts for me for my birthday. I was pleasantly surprised and touched. I definitely didn't expect anything from her. Let's face it, I only met her two weeks prior.

Hiking Gear

One Sunday, Calvin and I went to church together. After church, Calv suggested we go to the mountains, just for fun. I was down! Ain't I always?

We didn't hike or anything, I mean, we kinda did but not a real hike because someone wasn't dressed appropriately. We did just come from church after all! The views were magnificent!

San Gabriel Valley view from where we were

There were quite a few cars parked in the vicinity, some folks had gone there for their Sunday morning hike.

Some were taking perfect shots

It was a beautiful day, as you can see, and I am sure a good time was had by all.

Ashy legs from our mini hike up the mountain

We were up there for a bit. I loved the idea. After the mountain, we went for brunch at Roscoe's Chicken and waffle. The first time I had chicken and waffle was this instance and that ended up with a grown man crying and me not knowing where I stood. Thankfully that's not how this date ended!

It's like a food court where they have the Roscoe's, there's a KFC and a few other chicken places in that very center. With all that going on, there was a huge line outside Roscoe's. We had to wait outside. I couldn't believe how busy one place can be! Eventually, we got in.

I had their world famous, chicken and waffle.

Roscoe's Chicken and Waffle

That's butter! I know, it looks like ice cream, right?

My pretty drink.

The drink was too sweet. I am not a big drink drinker anyway. I love water, but I will try something exotic just for the experience.

Calvin had livers.

Roscoe's Chicken Livers
I had never seen so many livers on one plate! My goodness! We couldn't finish our food. The rest went home with us and I forgot my left overs at Calvin's, so they all ended up in the trash because Calv doesn't do left overs.

My review of Roscoe's chicken and waffle? Meh! It was ok! I'm glad I can check it off my list. On to the next!

Champurrado from church

Champurrado is crazy good! It's the best thing since sliced bread! And it's filling! It's a Mexican drink. I told my sister, Pumla (the one with the cookbook) to learn the recipe and make it. I don't even like porridge, but this is my jam!

Cherimoya

Cherimoya is a gigantic fruit that reminds me very much of pear from it's consistency. It's a Central American fruit. Calvin's parents have the tree. He picked this for me. I liked it. I'd have it again. Next time, I will put it in a smoothie.

Inside of Cherimoya

Speaking of picking things for me, Calvin has this South African plant in his yard. It's called elephant bush. When I first saw it, I picked a leaf and munched on it. Calvin was surprised. Can you believe it? The tree doctor didn't know that you can eat elephant bush. I didn't know that name, I think we call it something else. Some Xhosa name. One day, Calv gave me a bonsai of the elephant bush. He had been growing it for me. It was still a baby when he gave it to me. I was so toughed, I cherished it so much. I have received flowers before, but no one has ever given me  a tree!

Elephant Bush

Let me love and leave you with a picture of Calvin's beloved pet spider; Shiva, a Chilean tarantula.. one of the worlds most venomous spiders. He keeps it in a cage in his dining room.

Black Friday

On our last day in the desert, we got up early, as usual; Calvin made breakfast, we packed and loaded the car.

Calvin's dad has a friend of more than 50 years. They have been friends since they were in second grade and have been in each other's lives all their lives. The friend lives in the desert. Calvin called the friend and the friend wanted us to pass by before we left.

I asked Calvin to take a couple of pictures of me before we headed out. I was so glad to have finally gotten a chance to see the desert house.

It was kinda cold as you can tell by my outfit

Calv did what we used to call closing procedures in my years of working as a security officer; walking around the house ensuring all the windows are closed, doors locked, water thing closed, etc. As he was doing that, I walked around taking the scenery in one last time.

That's when I spotted these: 2 Prickly pears!

I come from an area named after prickly pear because there are so many of them. We used to even sell them growing up. We would fill old paint cans up with prickly pears and sell them to passers by along the main road from Uitenhage through Cape Town. I had never seen this shade though. Calv picked it for is...with his bare hands! I was like, are you sure you should be using your bear hands for that? He relied, 'babe, I'm a tree specialist! I know what I'm doing!' Ok, smarty pants!

Peach prickly pear.

I had never seen a peach prickly pear before. Maybe it should be called prickly peach? I enjoyed it though. I hadn't had prickly pear since forever. Just before we left, I said something about my dry skin from the desert weather. Calvin ran back to the front yard, tore up an aloe and brought a piece. he told me to use some of the juices on my skin. I was like, ?!?!?!? I didn't want to say anything to the Tree Doctor. It's quite nice having someone so handy around, who knows things regular people don't know. He comes in handy more often than not.

Calvin spotted a toad as he was turning off water. See? on the left? there were three of them

When all was said and done, we headed over to Cal's dad's friend's house. It's downtown, so to speak. Cute house. Cute Harley Davidson bike outside. Nice and clean. Red. Have you noticed how bikes are hardly ever dirty? The friend came out to great us. A True biker, he came out in jeans with a Harley Davidson T-shirt on and had shoulder length silver hair. It was nice to meet someone that cool. You wouldn't expect that in that town. always expect the unexpected. He gave me a good, strong hug and told me that he had heard so much about me; that Cal's dad loves me and always raves about me. It was such a humbling thing to hear. I love Cal's dad, he is the nicest person you will ever meet in your life and an awesome cook. I guess that's where Calvin gets it from.

Back to my roots!

We hung out. I love other people's homes. I love to see how they decorate them and stuff. I'm into that. Feel free to send me pictures of your homes too, for real! I love them, I think you can learn a lot about someone by just looking at their home. I specifically love clean homes, ain't nobody got time to tiptoe in a filthy house where you can't even put your expensive handbag. That ain't right! It doesn't have to be all white. Lived in but tidy, where you don't have to spring clean, or lock some rooms when you expect someone because you're embarrassed. The way you live also shows your state of mind. If your house is chaotic, it means your affairs are all over the place. I really believe that. You wanna keep things in their own place in your head and in your house. Why not? Life's easier that way. You want to be able to walk from your bedroom to the bathroom or any other room for that matter, in the middle of the night, in the dark or with your eyes closed because there is no mess on the floor that you will trip on.

Anyway, we sat on stools by a counter between the living room and the kitchen and drinks! The friend took out his precious stash for Cal because he considers him his nephew. We all chatted and joked around. I love that guy, he's so cool. So Fun! There were a lot of that's what she said jokes. And you know me, I always down for a that's what she said joke. The friend's wife came home. She had been visiting her sister in the hospital. This is the fifth wife. Apparently the friend had been married and divorced four times and Calv's dad was best man in three of those weddings haha. I love such stories, the craziest things you will ever hear. The friend told us their started off as a group of five or six friend but half have since passed away. He and Cal's dad are the only two that are still close.

The wife invited us to their 20 something or so anniversary. This may be the fifth marriage but it stuck! They have been married for a very long time! Calvin agreed.. Not too long after the wife got home, it was time for us to head out. Back to LA, it is! I noticed Calvin walking kinda funny to the kitchen. I had asked everyone to take a group selfie. It came out great. I sent it to the wife's phone for them to have a copy. We walked to the car and that's when I saw that Calvin was really having a hard time walking. All that good stuff that the friend was giving him, may have been too strong for him. Great! That means I'm driving all the way home!

But first! We went to the mall. I had seen one of my favorite stores in the mall when we went to Walmart. I asked if we could check it out seeing as it was the real Black Friday. There was nobody in the mall, I think everyone was still at Walmart since the night before. I needed a black, everyday handbag as my old Ann Taylor one was busted. I had had it forever though. Since my sister came to The US for the first time. I was still in South Africa then, dreaming of coming to America. This was 2009 or 2010. I highly recommend Ann Taylor, a bit pricey but oh so worth it.

I found a cute BCBG Tote.

Cute and just the right size
Just what I needed! And it's reversible!

Yass!

Not only that! It came with another bag inside. A Crossbody bag. My kinda sht. If you've noticed my bags over the years, especially on Facebook or Instagram; I always have a crossbody bag.

Amazing bag that keeps on giving

It seemed like I was getting three bags for the price of one. What more could you ask for? I also needed a pair of sunglasses. I had been breaking mine like there's no tomorrow. I found two pairs; one Oscar De la Renta and one Tommy Hilfiger pair. The Tommy was going to replace the Rockawear pair that stretched out on me. They were kinda similar.

I saw a cute pair of Navy  swede Calvin Klein Moccasins for Calvin. Unfortunately, he told me they're not his style. When it was time to pay, Calvin insisted on paying. I didn't even turn him down because I deserved it considering I was bout to drive us all the way back home and I drove to the desert as well.

Approaching Johannesburg

What? Where are we?

Johannesburg with 172 population.

This cannot be the same Johannesburg as the one in South Africa has a population of around 5 million.

I'll leave you with me in Johannesburg. See you in the next blog. Thanks for reading!

The Winning Attitude

After my best day ever at Let's Make a deal, all the winners were taken to the back to do paperwork. There were about ten or less of us. The whole process took no more than 15 minutes. When everything was done, I submitted my stuff to a lady who first congratulates you then confirms your prizes and your contact details. It was only then that I really heard what I had won. All I saw before was the gigantic TV. I was so excited all over again! In the end, we went outside and caught up with the rest of the people who were in our episode. Some people congratulated me, some of the audience stuff told me that they were not surprised I got picked, that, it was a matter of time. That was a nice compliment! Some haters folks told me that I got picked because I flirted with the producer. OK, losers, why don't you flirt with the producer next time and see if you will get picked. Not only that, if you do get picked, let's see if your sour ass will actually win! A lot more goes into winning  than flirting with a gay producer. Like, come on now! Naysayers! Some of them are my associates. I just smiled through it all. When they are ready, they will win too! I was going to offer one of them a ride home but they whole thing turned me off, that was a winning they just turned away right there by being naysayers.
After winning big on Let's Make a Deal

I can't tell you how many times, I will decide in my head that I will offer someone a ride, even if it's to the bus stop and they will do or say something that just makes me go, maybe not today! When that happens, it's a lesson to me as well that, by being negative,  I am closing doors I didn't even know were already open to/for me. Be careful what you put out in the world. You think that it's hard for you to get things or find someone or whatever, meanwhile, someone overheard that you are looking for a job, OR, saw you and immediately thought, '(s)he would be perfect for the job I am recruiting for!' as they make their way to you, you say something funny about someone, or something you have no business saying and they thing, 'meh, maybe they're not that perfect for it after all.' I'm not saying don't be easy going and don't make jokes, just be nice. And be happy for someone when something happens to them. They say that if you are around when someone wins something, you are that much closer to winning yourself. Winning includes all kinds of winning, as you well know. If you're not happy for someone when they win, you've just made a U-turn from winning, now, you're that much further.
Getting ready for Let's Make a Deal. I took this picture thinking, I'm gonna post this on my blog when I tell them about my winnings. And it all worked out!

The day of winning, I went to my car, ever so happy, turned on the phone and called  Calvin. I told him about my amazing day. He doesn't watch TV, has no idea who Wayne Brady is, but was still happy that I won. I was going to spend the weekend at Cals, as usual. Instead of going back to my house and then really getting stuck in traffic on my way to his, I decided to drive straight there from Hollywood, which is closer to his than Beverly Hills anyway. I rocked up in scrubs, haha. It was all good. Cal bought me a dress and I had a change of outfit at his house as well. It all worked out.

Not too long after all this happened, Brian and I were ok, he was back to talking about himself, telling me about the women who yearn for him, the one he wants more than anything else in the world, his ex-wife. What, Brian was married? Yup! He was 24 and was already married and separated, I guess. His wife is gorgeous. Apparently, he really loved Brian, he was with him even though he weight double what he weighed when I met him. He lost a lot of weight. When I found out that that girl was an illegal immigrant when he met Brian, it all made sense! I'm not saying he married him for citizenship, I'm just saying! It's very nice of Brian not to divorce her until she got her citizenship. Actually, now that I'm thinking about it, people pay a lot of money to marry people for citizenship. Don't come after me, Immigrations; I'm just a blogger!

Brian was still shopping on Rodeo, he was still calling his mom a b*tch and his brother an *ss hole. I didn't even know he had a mother, until I asked one day and he told me that she was a btch. I also didn't know that he had a brother but apparently, Brian was adopted and his mom favors her biological son, who's a New York attorney blah blah blah. Brian made reservations at my place for a few days, his payment didn't go through, you know the usual, I locked him out. You know what's funny? He never came home that night! Or at least, he never bothered me, maybe he came home, realised he had been locked out and left. I don't know, I never asked.

A few days went by, I went over to my boyfriend's and locked the house again. I had no communication with Brian because, again, he owed me for the time he had already stayed at my place and for the time he was locked out. He started leaving me rude messages, talking about Sh*t, and f*ck and all kinds of stuff. He told me that he had my money, I just had to open up for him. I didn't want him to pay me under the table, I didn't want to have to deal with another situation whereby I let him come by and he actually, only had so much money and he was going to pay me the rest later. Whatever! I was done! I wanted him to do everything by the book this time or nothing at all.

I got a call from AirBNB, Brian had reported me to them. I don't know how the report went about but AirBNB has access to the emails I had been sending to Brian over the time he had stayed at my place and they saw that he wasn't a stellar tenant. When they called, they told me not to worry about payment, would suggest that I kick him out because, clearly, he had overstayed his welcome. they would take care of the money he owed me. Air BNB was going to pay me and would in turn get their money from Brian. After the clogged toilet, I found out, I had to throw away more stuff from the smell, so I told Air BNB about it. They told me that they would take care of that as well. That was covered in the insurance the landlords get through being with Air BNB. That was music to my ears. They immediately transferred the money Brian owed, including the days he had been locked out. They seemed very understanding about the entire situation, at least my side of it. I was happy with how they handled it. They asked me to fill out a thing about the toilet deal, attach pictures and receipts, etc and they would reimburse me. That's where all the pictures I didn't show you went haha. Within five days, I got paid for that too. They asked me if I felt ok to have Brian come over to fetch his stuff, that very evening. I told them that I didn't feel unsafe. I refuse to feel unsafe in my own home!

I filled Calvin in on what had transpired. He told me to call him when Brian was over, just so that he can be on the phone should anything transpire. I thought that was sweet of him. I didn't anticipate anything transpiring. Crazy as this sounds, Brian was respectful, in his own way. And I appreciated that. I didn't want to have the police there to embarrass him when he was moving out. We did have some good times and some good laughs. Brian was in and out in no time. He called me when he was done to hand over the key, shook my hand and thanked me for letting him stay at my house and being so understanding for the time that I did. I wished him luck with everything, locked my doors, took my clothes off and walked around naked again now that I had my house back after so long!

River Deep, Mountain High

Being back in LA, didn't mean vacation was over! We still had more time to do stuff!

Calvin took me to this coffee place in San Gabriel where they have exotic coffees. I am not a coffee person, so I had this (durian) Indonesian fruit shake. I had never heard of the fruit, so of course, I had to have that! Why waste time on something you know when you have an opportunity to try something new? The owner of the place know Calvin and knows that his adventurous nature. The owner thought that Calvin was making me order the durian shake. I was like, no! No! No, Sir! I want to try this! He told me that if I didn't like it, I couldn't return it. I told him that I didn't think I could either! While discussing this issue, I noticed that there was something boiling on the other side of the counter. It looked like eggs boiling in mud. I asked what that was all about. He told me he was boiling eggs in tea. It's a Taiwanese thing. I was like, mhhh, can I try one? Calvin got us those as well.
Durian Shake

The eggs were great, nicely spiced, but everyone wanted to see the expression on my face after I sipped on the durian shake. I took a sip and loved it! It tasted different but not bad. I enjoyed it, actually! It smells pungent but tastes ok. I had that on our way to the mountains. Calvin took us to Mt Wilson. It's one of if not the tallest mountain in the San Gabriel Valley. The idea was to watch the sun set from up there but we were a tad late for that. the sun set on our way there, which we still enjoyed, nonetheless. I drove, the drive up the mountain was absolutely insane! It was getting dark, the roads are narrow. We were driving up the mountain, literally, so that was another factor but I enjoyed it. How often do you get to drive in a scary road like that?

Calvin was nervous for me, I could tell he wasn't breathing right. I was like, boo, don't worry, calm down! Enjoy the ride! There were rest stops along the way and spots that looked like bus stops where you pull over if someone driving faster came along.

When we got to the top, we got off and enjoyed the view.

View of LA from Mt Wilson

It was all so surreal! We may have posed for a couple of pictures...
Mt Wilson

It was cold up there! I tell ya, I was under-dressed. Luckily, I still had my vacation suitcase in the car with me. I put on a sweat suit (track suit), and continued to stand there and chat with my boo in the still of the night. It was cold and dark and quite. It was a hell of an experience!

We later went for a walk on the mountain. It was scary, Calvin kept telling me that he thought he heard something. I'd be like, what could it be? 'A Mountain Lion!' I tell ya, I didn't even know what exactly that was then but I was kinda shaken. I didn't think it smart to be in the middle of nowhere, barehanded where there were things called mountain lions. Calvin told me to pick up a few rocks, he would clap his hands every now and again. Apparently, that would scare them away or something. Being on top of the mountain like that, I couldn't resist yelling to the top of my voice. Just for the echo fun of it.
Tip of another mountain on my right

By the way, on our way back to the car, I urgently needed to pee. What? Are you kidding me? Great, the Pumas are going to get me! I also didn't want Calvin standing there watching me pee. Not cute! I survived!

That's how dark it was up the mountain!

On our way back home, we stopped by a mall and had Japanese for dinner. OMG, so good! I had a seafood soup with all kinds of seafood in it! It was so good. I am not a soup person but I love all the seafood soups I have had so far.
Japanese Seafood Soup

From the ocean to the Mountain, the best that Southern California has to offer!

La Jolla

I had decided to have my phone off during our vacation. Like most people nowadays; I am on my phone A LOT! Especially social Media and chatting with family on Whatsapp.

After a nice rest in our tent, we got up, hunted around for showers. The showers were on the other side of the camping grounds. They used quarters for warm water.
Just after the shower! Nice and clean!

Our nice neighbor had told us that so we went prepared with some quarters. We took showers and headed back to the site for breakfast. Cal and his new friend talked about the previous night. Cal offered the guy breakfast, he was making Spam. The guy didn't want to impose but Cal coerced him into having some. He succumbed and liked the Jalapeno flavored spam. Turned out, he had never had that kind before.

Spam for breakfast
I enjoyed breakfast. I always enjoy Calvin's cooking! We tidied up our site and headed out. Calvin suggested we go to La Jolla, San Diego. I've lived in San Diego but had never been to LA Jolla; which is one of the most expensive neighborhoods if not the most expensive, in San Diego. I was looking forward to checking it out. This was going to be my first time back in San Diego since I left. I was looking forward to making some nice memories as those from the time I lived there were kinda meh.

My car and our lovely neighbor's tent.

I drove. It was a little more than an hour's drive. The weather was nice. We got lucky and found parking by the beach. Calvin went Skimboarding. I took the most amazing video of him skimboarding ever! I am so proud of how it came out. Even he was impressed seeing it! He looks like such a pro! I walked along the beach and in the water, just to feel it on my skin. It was cold and windy over there!
La Jolla Beach, San Diego

How Blue is that water? Amazing! They had these cave like situations in the rocks along the beach front, we went in there and goofed around. It was a nice time!

After our fun in the water, we had worked up an appetite, we went for lunch. Calvin told me that there's a Nepalese restaurant that he had eaten in before that he wanted to take me to. I was down.

That's me in Calvin's fedora

We found the Indian/Nepal restaurant, well, not really but another one that served the same stuff as the one Calvin wanted to take me to. Service was crap, the servers looked like we were bothering them. The food was ok, some items were to die for but most were meh! The Mango Lassi was absolutely divine! Plus, it was my first time. I love mangoes! Calvin has a Filipino Mango tree, did I tell you?

After lunch, we went for a walk down the block just browsing. I didn't find anything I wanted. I'm also not the kind of person that needs to shop. If I find something I have been looking for, sure, other than that, vacation or not, I'm ok going back home with nothing but great memories. We came across this ice cream spot that apparently has the best ice cream. I ordered the smallest cup and just sampled because I was so full. Cal had the rest.

Back to the car, back to LA!
I loved how we drove all the way to San Diego for lunch.

There was a bit of traffic on our way back. Thank goodness for Carpool lane! I am usually alone in the car, so I never get to use it, so when I have someone in the car, I am the first one on the carpool lane. Let's go!

We made it back to LA, showered, maybe watched a movie, maybe passed out while watching, who knows?

By the way, for those of you who may not know, La Jolla is pronounced La Hoya.

Did I tell you that because my Air BnB guest had kinda stopped paying for his stay, I locked hiss ass out on my way to vacation? He couldn't get hold of me because my phone was off. Sorry, vacation time! Oops! You should've paid your rent!

Happy Camper

Calvin had a week off work where he decided to take me on vacation. It was going to be our first trip together. I was so excited! I loved the direction our relationship was going. Wouldn't you?

I packed a carry on luggage full of stuff  for the week and a small overnight back. I washed my car and headed on out to my Calvin's. I was so excited, I always have been whenever I was going to meet him; which had been every weekend since we met for the first time. Nice record. I have dated people in the past who were never available on weekends.

Brian, my airbnb guest was still staying at my house but was becoming more of a nuisance. The vacation couldn't have come at a better time, quite honestly. Not that there's ever poor timing for  vacation. I didn't tell Brian I was going out of town. It was none of his business. Also, you never know what people might get up to, knowing you were going to be away for a week.

Calvin planned that we would go camping by the beach on San Clemente. I had never been there before and hadn't camped in forever! Being n arborist, he had a bunch of wood from the trees he had been trimming, we took that with us, he also has very warm and thick sleeping bags and a tent. He is pretty outdoorsy, so it's only second nature that he would have that kind of stuff handy. I took my sleeping bag along as well. You can never be too prepared, right?

I arrived with my silver spinner suitcase, Calvin had his silver suitcase packed. I was surprised at how we both had similar suitcase. Poor coincidence!

We loaded my SUV, I posed for a few selfies and hit the road, Jack!

We both loaded the truck together, I pride myself in being good at packing. Having moved as many times as I have, it comes with the territory. Calvin thought of everything. He put water in the cooler for us and of course brought his skimboard. We were going to the beach after all. There it is in green below.
Let's go!
We started at the gas station by Calvin's house. He bought a few snacks. We did have lunch before we headed out. He prepared something for both of us. I ate as soon as I got there, within an hour, we were on our way. Right on schedule! We were both psyched!

It was a nice two or so hour drive to San Clemente, Orange County. We drove to the campground, booked a spot, the one we wanted was already taken or something, so the lady was nice enough to move us to one with an awesome view of the ocean. Man! So cool!

I was jumping up and down for joy with how everything was falling into place. As soon as our camping spot was booked, we set up our tent, which was much simpler than I thought it would be.

Cute tent for two
After setting up the tent, we went out for pizza down the street at a pizza joint where they also brew their own beer.

Ready for pizza!

The pizza was really good. I asked for one with as much meat variety as possible while Calvin was ordering exotic beer.

Deliciousness!

We also had chicken wings with our pizza. So good!

It wasn't a lot of food but I was full. Probably, mainly from excitement! Calvin bought himself a Pizza Port beer mug. From Pizzaring, we headed out to the beach. We did so much that day, I can't believe we only had 24 hours! Calvin skimboarded. I took pictures and videos, you know the drill, haha. Soon, I will know how to do all these things and be cool too, you wait! I stepped into the water, because you have to! I love water, I just can't swim. I had shorts and flip flops on, so I was ready to go.

After all that, we went to the supermarket to get ourselves a few necessities; ice, juice, stuff to eat while staying there, red velvet cake for moi, etc ;)
Because I had to

When we got home, we walked around the are to see what else was going on. There were a lot of campers,. I must say! Families, some people had two trucks, bikes, bicycles, it seemed like they lived there.

We went in the tent and chilled there for a second, when someone close by started playing nice music. This is not Beverly Hills, you can't be mad that someone's music is loud. We're on vacation, we're open minded. We had our own speaker, I had the iPod, but we turned ours on and enjoyed the neighbors music. He had a caravan/Trailer right next to us. Calvin went out for some reason and ended up talking to our neighbor. The neighbor asked if his music is too loud, we told him we love it.

Around sunset, Cal called me to watch the sunset.
So amazingly beautiful!
We stood outside our tench and took it all in. It was a moment, for sure! Neighbor invited us over to watch the sunset from his 'yard'.
Beautiful San Clemente Sunset
Neighbor had a lot of interesting things over there. He had a wooden statue from Indonesia, he refers to it as his wife. That was on the table and a lot of interesting things from his travels all over the world. He's a very nice guy, we were lucky to be posted next door to him.
The neighbor's wife!

Calvin made dinner, he had brought ground beef/minced meat from home, he made burgers out of that for all of us, including the neighbor.
Burgers for dinner
We had brought a camping type stove but the neighbor offered his, so Calvin used that instead.

Dinner time!

The burgers were delicious, we all loved them. Calvin is such a gem, I'd be lost without him. He comes in handy in all kinds of environments.

Neighbor offered some stuff from his own kitchen, pickles, etc to go with out burgers.
You know, the messier food looks, the better it tastes!

After dinner, they drank some exotic drinks. We all sat and chatted the night away. It was a really good day and night.

I got tired and went to bed, Calvin made fire for us to keep us warm through the night.
I may have got up to quickly enjoy the fire
As you can see, a great time was head by all!

Eventually, I went to sleep. Calvin sat outside by the fire and enjoyed the still of the night. Eventually, he woke me up. There was a skunk by our trash, he didn't want me to miss out. What? I've never seen a skunk in person. If I did, I must have been very young in the farm.

The skunk going through our trash
The thing didn't care how much noise we made or anything, it was focusing on what it was doing; licking those avocado peels. Calvin threw rocks near it to scare it away, hoping it wouldn't spray him with its smelliness. Did it move an inch? Nope! Only when it was done, did it walk away! Bye Felicia!
