I Should Be Packing!

I should be packing (he said!). No, seriously, I should be doing something other than this. I have no internet, so here goes nothing!

It’s 12:28pm, 105 degrees F (where’s the degree key on this thing?) here in the California desert and I just returned from trying to figure out what the deal is with my phone. I was listening to it read blog posts for me on Bluetooth headphones while doing the dishes, so I didn’t even realize that it was SOS-ing on the screen. Needless to say, I didn’t solve it by putting on a sarong and getting out of the house. At least, I also dropped off a bill, so, you can’t say I didn’t get anything done (or that I don’t pay my bills).

Some of the stuff I’ve packed so far. It makes me excited to look in this closet

Other than that, I have been home for a month and a third-ish and it has flown by. I say that because by week two of being home from my little travels, I feel a bit antsy. What kept me distracted? It  must’ve been packing.

Here’s the deal! I went to Asia for the month of May.

That took me what felt like forever to plan! I mean, I was planning that trip and another one and went to the other trip, returned and was still planning Asia. Only more than 10 accommodations in that span of time! It wasn’t for the faint... I started off in Singapore, Flew out of Los Angeles with a backpack of 7 outfits. Hash tag one bag! I’ve been doing one bag travel for a bit now. I remember going to Jamaica with one backpack. That was several years ago. Granted, that trip was short. The irony is that I had to wear a sht ton of my outfits to be able to pass the personal item test. Meaning, your backpack or whatever you’re carrying needs to fit into the smallest thing that the airline uses to measure.  I was able to fit everything comfortably on the way back, which still boggles my mind. I wore the same outfit flying back to The States as I did to Montego Bay, so go figure! I did a backpack in Europe for a couple weeks, multi country trip, that was better than Jamaica. Did it for couple is weeks in Central America and the one to Asia was the best thus far! The bag wasn’t even ready to explode, the outside compartment was empty even! When I tell you moving from one of my gazillion accommodations to the next was a breeze cos I wasn’t worried about packing etc! It’s not for everyone, therefore,  I am not here to convince anyone. I did do videos with what I took for one or three of the abovementioned trips but I am not sure if I have posted them yet, but there’s plenty to peruse about my travels on my Youtube Channel under Babalwa Brook, so check it and give us a sub while you’re out there. I also post little tours of my accommodations, including cruise cabins, if you care! Which reminds me, I did a backpack for an 11 day Caribbean Cruise last December. This included me driving hours to Vegas, bussing to the airport, flying to Fort LAuterdale, and heading to Miami port (and back). The cruise ship is not an issue. You want plenty of outfits for that, cos HELLO! But the cheap flights is where it’s at! So, I was able to fit 22 outfits into that backpack for that trip. Gotta have been the heaviest “personal item” ever!

Wow! This ended up being about one bagging! Really? I wasn’t sure what I was going to write anout. As I said, I should be packing, but I feel a bit disoriented due to not having internet, which, I am well aware, has niks om te doen with packing. So I thought, why don’t we grab the laptop and type a lil.

Normally, I would have a trip planned and be working on another one but that’s not the case right now because I am trying to figure out what I will be doing with my life moving forward. Because of that, I have been backing. I have several closets in both houses and try not to wear the same thing more than once to give chance to everyone. I also never leave the house, where I wear nothing or a robe, depending on the season. Then when I go on my trip, I try to fit everything into a small backpack, this means, not getting through a lot of my clothes. When home, I stay put but once a month, when I go to town for all my errands i.e. groceries. So one outfit a month. Its a conundrum, isn’t it? I always try to take a photo andpost when I get out of the house cos it also reminds me what I have worn but I also do have a system in the closets of what goes where. So far, I have only packed what has already been worn. Several suitcases; one with tops only, dresses only (must’ve been 50 dresses in there!), robes, etc. It’s been interested and taking longer than it probably should because I’m seeing something I last wore to Mexico 2022. ‘OMG! My very first trip to MX!’ blah! I wonder if this will still fit, then we try it on, then we look at the journal to see how much I weighed then cos, you know, aluta continua!

Lots of walking in Asia, lots more carbs than I normally eat here at home, as my regular diet is almost strictly carnivore? But I didn’t eat as many times as I do at home. Don’t get me started on today and the last week! PMS! Anywhoodles! Being so tired of exploring and possibly jetag (13-14 hour time difference) in Asia led to me just being like, nah dude, Ima have to wait until tomorrow or later, like Imm too tired to go grab something to eat now. The fact that  a lot of the accommodations I was in all had restaurants attached to them, which in turn, meant no kitchens for guests was a bit sht too, cos NO FOOD INSIDE! Blah! So, being the principled, red blooded American that I am, I would, out of principle NOT support the places I stayed in and eat anywhere BUT! Slept like a baby because of that, so, in all actuality, I’ve got them to thank for such restful nights!

From Singapore, to three other countries and then Vietnam, where I flew back to the States from.

I guess, we will have to talk some other time about that trip, which, on my mind, I kinda thought is waht I was going to tell you about here. I’ve gotta go! Hopefully, the cell is working now. I need to remember to post this cos I’m typing it on MS Word.

1150 words in 30 mins.

TTYL! Text me!
