Go Tell It On The Mountain

After I said YES! I called mom while we were waiting in line for Our tacos. I wanted her to be the first one to hear the news. She picked up! It's always a shocker when she does. I told her the news. She kept asking "what?" "What?" I don't know if she was surprised or what. Eventually, she got it and said, "OK". Her enthusiasm was underwhelming to say the least. We didn't talk for long because I wanted to stay in my bubble and she was outside the bubble?. Next! My sisters!

I have a bunch of sisters. Do you know that none of them picked up the phone that night? Granted, it was early in the morning but it wasn't that early! I tried everyone. Several times! When we got home, bro in law stopped by. I didn't know whether Calvin had told him he was going to propose. You kinda expect someone to say something if they know you just got engaged. Feel me? I showed him my ring. His response was something along the lines of, 'You know, when my parents got engaged, the ring my dad bought my mom was only $30. There's no need to spend so much money on a ring!" Boy, am I glad I am neither your mom nor marrying your dad!  I was like, "Jealous!" Why does he care how much my guy spent on a ring for me? It's none of his business! Get your own life, boo! I wasn't crazy about Calvin telling the whole village what his budget was for the ring. I just don't like everyone knowing my business like that. But it's his life too, so!

Before I went to bed, my niece called back. I told her the news. She was so happy for me! Finally! My kind of people! Thank you! I also talked to Tebo. I told her that since talking to her over the phone, I had got engaged. She was like, 'what? That was only an hour ago!'  She was sooo excited for me she gave me goosebumps!

Bed time!

The following day, the rest of my sisters called me back. I shared the news with them. One of them, told me that she had been thinking a lot about marriage lately, she even googled rings that she would like should she have to pick one. She did have a ring as her profile picture. So she wasn't lying. She told me, she is not surprised that someone close to her got engaged what with all the thoughts she had been having about rings etc. OK! Everyone was very happy for me. Just as I expected. I love my family for that! They are so supportive! I'm nothing without them!

We hadn't set a date yet. It was early days. I mean, less than 24 hours! When I told my friend from Canada the news, she told me that my engagement date is actually going to be her wedding date. I like that we have that in common.

I didn't really work that much since the engagement, so I didn't tell people I work with. I was also not fishing around for people to tell. Did I change my Facebook status to 'engaged'? Nope!

Oops! Did I tell you that on our engagement night, Calvin got beaten by a bug? He thinks it was spider. That's ironic, considering he has a pet tarantula. Anywho! He didn't want to go to the emergency room that night, so, he did whatever he could to treat the bite at home. Tea tree oil, the works. The following morning, the arm was so swollen, we had to do something. we had drawn around the infected area by pen to see if it was going to grow or dwindle. When it got bigger, we went to the emergency room. The doctor told him, it would go away in a matter of days. Thank goodness! They gave him an injection.

The ring at the Doctor's.
There I am obsessing overt he ring at the emergency room. Calvin's legs.

Driving Around After Engagement

Life's different when you've just had a dream come true. The sun shines brighter, the sky looks bluer and the flowers smell more beautiful. It's a new day!

Taking Calvin to the Doc
